Black Hole SUN

April 27, 2009 Leave a comment

“No one seems to get this, but “Black Hole Sun” is sad. But because the melody is really pretty, everyone thinks it’s almost chipper, which is ridiculous.”    – Chris Cornell , SoundGarden

Press reports say that Oracle has agreed to buy Sun for $9.50/share. This comes after the negotiations with IBM failed at an advanced stage. Now I usually do not write about corporate matters in my personal blog because clearly I wish to keep it free from mad people injecting it with unnecessary legal greenpaper with or without purpose, reason or practicality. But there are times when I feel that the thoughts are so overwhelming, its better to put it down so that something good might come out of it. That is the reason why I shared my views on the dismal state of yahoo to the readers sometime back. Now since I brought this up,just a small update, but yahoo seems to be limping back to its good days slowly. But that may or may not be a topic of a future rant. We are discussing the recent acquisition of SUN.Also I sincerely implore you to agree to THIS before you read it further. If you do not agree you must stop reading and go HERE.

We cannot imagine the world without the sun and I cannot imagine the IT world without SUN. Sun has been iconic with its unix and top notch server systems that power most of the major economies. Also my entire student life during my Bachelors was ridden more with SUN than it was with any other systems. SUN is so much ionic that even text books take it as a standard. And I have not even discussed its business potentials and technical specialities. Now UNIX and servers systems were not its only selling points. SUN is equally (probably more) famous to the newer generations for something called Java. The programming language in its entirety revolutionized dynamic web content and set up an industry precedence and cult following which soon exploded into mass adoptions and implementations across all devices large or small. A major mobile community thrives on Java and Java based games and applications and a modern mobile is not considered worth the money if it doesn’t support Java. So apparently they were doing well !

Not this Java you moron........

Internet is the new land of opportunities, wonders. Its the magical land of porn fairies, gay beasts and knights in shinning armour. It is the house of corporate kingdoms-kingdoms where the mantra is “People before Profits” but followed religiously backwards. Its a mythical land of get rich quick schemes and free offers to increase the length of your manhood. Its the America of the digital age-the land of opportunities. The internet from its birth to this day when I am writing this non-triangulated opinions on,  it has changed a lot. From the heebi-jeebies of networked geekdom,it has evolved into a way of life. It has become a parallel consciousness re-inforced by individuality truss-ing upon the mundane stream of monotonic bits and bytes. Also the individuality bracketed within a “www.” and “.com” has -for some- evolved into internet corporates. Most to this day are survivors of various market downturns and investment write offs. When I was first introduced to internet it was just on the verge of exploding to what it is today. The pesky 56 KBPS connection opened up ornate web pages with gif animations  and awfully simple navigation. And of course there was email and internet search.I was initially aware of msn and yahoo and I used to avail their search and email services all the time.I used to hate google search because it was all so boring and it never used give me right results on porn.Lycos was pathetic with banners and lets just not speak of AOL and altavista. MSN and hotmail usage was kind of rare for me because with all their hyper technology, they forgot the third world human angle to it.We just need better bandwidth to even see those pages. Yahoo search and email used to fascinate me in every possible way. Also the innovative services like groups (a primitive form of social networking often leveraged by paedophiles, sheep molesters and zoophilliacs apart from the regular joe porn-a-holics ) and chat were all integrated along with the everyday services of search and email into a portal.A single username/password combo opened up the doors to a hell lot of legitimate and useful services often used for no-so useful purposes.
