8X10 Tasveer : The review

April 20, 2009 Leave a comment

Haven’t been following up with the latest bollywood releases lately. However the occasional trailers that forcefully numb you senses when surfing through the available bouquet of mostly useless and uninspiring satellite channels made me put two movies in the “should watch” list and 8×10 being the one- the other is “AAn dekhe Zara”. Now when it comes to Akshay Kumar movies, I find them as a sadistic orgasm of inflections with a bully-ing drawl and attitude , attitude and some more attitude- all the while every other co-actors cowering to the cornermost part of the frame to save their pony a$$es from the entire me-me-me blastorgasm. But you cannot deny the fact that despite his stereotypical bullying and drawlish inflections , he is one of the top tier paid actors in Bollywood today. So usually given a choice I tend to pass Akki-movies.However this time even the trailer was replete with intellect-as well as an indication of a possible mind f*ck… so this time I decided to treat this as an exception and watch this movie.

A short synopsis: Akshay Kumar is Jay- the only immediate heir to a very rich oil tycoon. He has chosen his life with the environment and works as a Forest Ranger to earn his living in the deep woods of  Canada. He is married/living together with Ayesha Takia in a small forest cabin and has dislike about his father’s business possibly due to the eco reasons. Also Jay can look into a photograph and figure out the few moments surrounding the time the photographs were taken. Literally he gets into the picture -though for only 60 seconds beyond which he barely has a chance to live nay longer. In this premise good old dad dies in a fell-from-boat-and-died-of-heart attack-in cold water event. People see this as an accident converging with the fact that dad already survived two strokes. In comes Happi (Happy with an i)- some paranoid ex police guy once helped by dad and thinks that this may be a murder since Jay’s mom denied a post mortem. Also a picture of the entire group was taken moments before the accident.Armed with it Jay sets out to find the killer and what follows is a rare cocktail of suspense and thrill coupled with a big time(though formula oriented) revelation that takes the viewer through a wonderful joyride of entertainment. Star-Trek: Where Gene Roddenberry never thought of going before !

April 14, 2009 1 comment

I am an avid trekkie,my first brush with trek was the sundays of my younger years when the original series used to air on Doordarshans.I used to wait out the entire week for that.My fascination with gadgets – may be- started at that time.I had a sweater which was just like the blue one which Leonard Nimoy used to wear for the character of Spock. And many a times it had been my improvised trekkie costume on sundays specially during the winter months. But due to reasons unknown Doordarshan decided against continuing it and it was stopped.Years went by and before we knew it we were already on the Cable TV era-by this time Doordarshan created and lost its metro Channel and people really didn’t bother anymore of what is being shown on the national television.Of the initial channels Star Plus used to serve us with cool US programs before its crushing indianization in its all hindi Saans Bahu Avtaar but the Star network came up with a parallel channel called the Star world which happened to air seasons after seasons of Star Trek: The next generation. Also there was another channel called Hallmark which used to air the other gem of Trek TV – “Star Trek: Voyager”.Coupled with the Mainstream movies, it gave the taste of Scifi like never before.

Now things changed-things changed with the release of Star Trek: Nemesis [Movie] and Star Trek : Enterprise [TV series].Both were disasters and spelled doom for the entire franchise. The internet was full of articles that described how old this franchise was and how unnecessary it would have been to continue with it. But a decision was made to remodel the franchise with relevance to the current world and present it with a whole new outlook.Guess what-the trailers are looking promising already !

The Eye : A Blind Review

I am holding my insatiable lust for movies for a while-actually I am busy collecting them. Why am I doing that ? well, we will know in course of time and that will be the topic of another post. But it is sufficient to know that I am saving it all for the rainy days.I am building a huge ark full of at least two specimens of each genre of good english language movies which will help me tide through an upcoming drought. Even though I am trying to play Noah in a film school way yet I am still a puny human being all the while vulnerable to urges. So this weekend my self imposed restraint was broken and I pulled out a horror movie with a seemingly horrifying name- The Eye.

The EYE

The EYE

Now before you conjure up a wrinkled  face and some grotesque interpretation of an eyeball stuck onto it,I am going to slap your imagination right on the face by saying that the first thing you see something that remotely is related to the eyeball is ….. an eyeball….in a face….. wearing dark glasses in soft sunlight….. slowly sipping iced tea…. and thinking aloud a lot of things read from the epilogue of the biography of a pink pony! And the face in question is of Jessica Alba.

TSCC : Season Finale – Impressions

April 11, 2009 Leave a comment

*This write up was updated with new information post publication*

I finished watching the season finale of  the Sarah Connor Chronicles exactly 1 hours and 30 minutes back and I just found enough of myself back to write something about it.Though still punishingly soaked in pure awesomeness,I think my brain has started to analyze what hit it ! I envisioned that the season finale will be a blast – and decisively it was.Now given the  fact that the Terminator Salvation  is about to hit the theaters in about a month’s time,I really doubt that this series is ever going to get a season three. But I am really curious now that how they are going to proceed with the story since they opened up whole new dimension to the universe. Technically speaking, May be the upcoming movie is going to Terminate the possibility of a third season altogether. It makes more sense to put this TV series as a handover gesture from the Terminator 2: Judgement Day to Terminator Salvation. That way you totally get to ignore the cacaphony that involved Nick Stahl and was forcefully shoved down the throat as Terminator 3.Also the creation of a scientifically and politically correct parallel timeline they will have ample scope to resume or start a new series when all the Terminator movie hum has died down.People will love getting it back while they are waiting for Terminator 5.

Queen Gorgo : Awaiting a mindfuck

Queen Gorgo : Awaiting a mindf*ck

A couple of days back I was yammering about John Henry being the  MIRЯOR of John Connnor and the garbage terminator its loving mother and shit- and guess what I was again proved right 🙂 Garbage terminator has come back in time to build God since Cain and Able are busy mind-fucking each other in the future and Cain being the evil skynet-kind needs to be punished-by GOD. We see that Queen Gorgo is severely dressed down as a mom by the Garbage Terminator. Also it is heartening to know that even if the series manages to get a third season we won’t be seeing the Queen Gorgo move (Please refer here for details on Queen Gorgo Move) for a while-ah ! the relief for the really sore eyes !

And…finally…the pen is mightier than the sword

Oh boy! We ARE in exciting times. All of my favorite teenage crush objects are getting new and promising makeovers and new informations are released about them almost simultaneously these days. So being the lazy brat I am,it is all but obvious that I am short of my time in typing out my views. Now this time it was not all about me being lazy-I am juggling with a new job role in a new office as well as residual old responsibilities for some time now and needless to say I will be using this as an excuse to shield my lathergy. However the world around doesn’t quite sing to my tunes and they happily keep on doing what they do everyday- and so I cannot but jump in glee with this sudden overload of juicy tid-bits.The point in question is the introduction of the latest Diablo 3 Character- The Archivist. He appears to be a person in loincloths with an expected accessory-a druid like doom stick. He is possibly blind on one eye since he wears a pirate like eye patch and he has all the arcane knowledge of scrolls and tomes stuffed into his brilliant mind …. and  he wears slippers…. like Doctor Zoidberg. The Archivist of all things sure looks poor 🙂

To me the introduction of the male and the female variant of the characters did open up a huge window of opportunities for character choices but at the same time it provided them an opportunity to not put much thought to character creation and secretly rebadge upgraded characters from the Classic series’ as totally new heroes. It is all THAT obvious if you try to remember the “Sorceress Class” from Diablo II.To me it is more of a male and possibly poorer version of the Sorceress class sent to the town of Tristram wearing totally white slippers to make a bold statement about fashion and possible Zoidberg-ian ancestry. However the reason this release deserved a post on my blog is because of  “Shush” (the last part of the video below)- absolutely mind blowing ! Read more…

The day the whole world went away !

Things have been pretty awesome on my teen age crush object front : The Terminator Universe. Now…now, even before my brain begins to puke oodles of fanboyism with a little bit of random sense sprinkled here and there I must tell you that quite disappointingly even by my own standards of resolution, this post is going to be about my views on the way things are turning for one of my favorite sci-fi post apocalyptic franchise, ever.

Favorite Sci-fi Post apocalyptic Franchise,Ever!

Favorite Sci-fi Post apocalyptic Franchise,Ever!

Terminator Salvation is long established to be the savior of the franchise and I have discussed all about it time and again, multiple times. And I still stay true to my old resolution that unless I see some oh-my-god-its-fucking-awesome footage which tickles my sci-fi bones to time delayed orgasmic spasms,I will wait to see the entire movie upon release to write about it.So the big spoiler here is this post is not about Terminator Salvation- well not exactly. I have been following up with the Sarah Connor chronicles as well-and I never found it intriguing enough to even write about it.Sure it offered a popcorn value to whole quite evenings but I never thought that they would ever make it worthwhile for me to type out anything-anything at all about it.
